The awards for the best projects in the subject were presented by the architects Teresa Batlle and Jordi Nolea on behalf of Pich-Aguilera Architects and Rockwool Spain, respectively, both corporate sponsors of the Department.
Big Nonia 1, submitted by students Manuel Quiñones, Nacho Vallhonrat and Miguel Pujol, was the winning project in the third edition of the CEIM awards. The panel of judges described the project as “outstanding for its potential and simplicity. The project’s outstanding features were the walkways and the integration of exterior and interior space, in addition to the building’s enhanced bioclimatic performance. An interesting space was also created on the ground floor. The proposal manages to achieve a reduction in costs as well as enhanced quality in the building’s interior”.
Second prize was awarded to the project submitted by Lara Pérez, Anna Perramón and Sergi Pujadó. According to the judges’ panel, “The work done on the proposal was outstanding. It consisted of an energy rehabilitation project with a flexible solution. It included the capacity to integrate active energy systems, served by photovoltaic panels, into the building’s architecture. However, the project requires further development of the technological systems.”
This academic year, projects focused on energy rehabilitation in the Gamma and Delta buildings on the UIC Barcelona Campus. The first and second prizes consisted of store vouchers valued at €500 and €300, respectively, from the Cooperativa d’Arquitectes Jordi Capell architectural supplies store.
With the sponsorship of Pich-Aguilera Architects and Rockwool Spain, the UIC ESARQ School of Architecture aims to meet market needs and enable cooperation in a broader area of science and technology than is possible in an R&D initiative, with three clear areas of action: training, knowledge generation, and the transfer of technology and knowledge. The CEIM’s objective is to set up channels for collaboration and development between the UIC and different companies and organizations in the construction industry to achieve significant results in sustainability and respect for the environment.
