Held in the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the event gathered over 400 healthcare professionals and included a speech by the Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality. The 3rd edition of these awards received 320 projects, 21% more than in the second edition. The jury, made up of 36 prominent figures and representatives from all health-related fields, selected the projects that best conveyed the values of kindness, effectiveness, innovation, commitment and humanity; those held by Dr Albert J. Jovell.
Albert J. Jovell, founder of the Spanish Patients Forum, developed his own way of thinking and an innovative approach based on the medical profession, the defence of public healthcare and the central role of patients in the health system. Dr Albert J. Jovell was the founder and first director of the Global Institute for Public Health and Health Policy at UIC Barcelona, which is today called the Albert J. Jovell Institute for Public Health and Patients and directed by Dr María Dolores Navarro. In addition to the initiative Cátedras en Red, the Institute is also involved in the UIC Barcelona Janssen Innovative Classroom in Healthcare Policy.
The 3rd edition of the Albert Jovell Awards Forum revolved around the affective-effective model, by which patients are cared for and healed as people, taking as factors their dignity and humanity, instituting care based on trust and empathy and contributing to their well-being and to improved health outcomes.
The Albert Jovell Awards Forum bestowed prizes on 17 innovative projects in six categories. In addition, Dr María José Mellado, president of the Spanish Paediatrics Association (AEP) and paediatrician at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, was given an award by the jury for career achievement in healthcare.
