The 4th Hestia Awards recognises research in social and health care and mental health

This year's Awards included a special category for projects related to COVID-19 and received 62 entries from 28 Spanish research centres

The 2021 Hestia Awards for Excellence in Social and Health and Mental Health Research, promoted by the Hestia Chair in Integrated Social and Health Care, were held on 14 December. A total of 62 projects were submitted to this 4th edition of the Awards from a number of autonomous communities such as Catalonia, Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Valencia, Madrid, Murcia and the Basque Country.

The main objective of these Awards is to recognise the best research initiatives undertaken between 2019 and 2020 in the field of social and health care, mental health and palliative care, with the aim of improving care for complex chronic patients with a high degree of social vulnerability. This year, the Awards also included a special category to recognise work related to COVID-19.

The jury was chaired by Dr Xavier Corbella, director of the Hestia Chair in Integrated Social and Health Care, who was joined by Dr Miquel Fernández Castañer, associate member of the Chair; Dr Susana Subirà, director of the Hestia Foundation; Dr Àngels Canas, member of the Corporate Management team of the Hestia Alliance Group, and Eva Luque, general director of the Hestia Alliance Group, who selected the eight winning projects from the 62 entries.  In order to determine the winning projects, the jury assessed the type of study design, whether it had a multi-centre focus, the multidisciplinary composition of the team, whether the journal of publication was indexed, the type of quartile and impact factor (for articles), and the content and national or international scope of the conferences (for communications).
