4th year Humanities students take a look at the lesser known areas of the MACBA

Students were able to visit the museum’s storerooms and photographic archives and discover the admission process prior to holding an exhibition of new work.

When we visit a museum we move through the various rooms and spaces in which the art is exhibited, but very few people are able to discover what is behind closed doors. There are only a fortunate few of these people, like the 4th year Humanities students who went on a different and special visit to the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona (MACBA) in December.

During this outing which was organised by the Faculty, students were able to go beyond what members of the general public are normally able to visit. They went into the various storerooms in the museum and looked at both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art pieces and the photographic archives. They also had the opportunity to find out about the whole process that starts when a new work of art arrives and ends when it is exhibited to the public.
