Eight UIC Barcelona researchers among the most influential in the world

Researchers from different areas of UIC Barcelona have been included in the prestigious ranking of world scientists, “World’s Top 2% Scientists” from Stanford University, which brings 223,152 scientists together from 22 different areas.

A total of 4,007 of those chosen are from Spain. The ranking, published in the journal Elsevier, is based on various parameters, such as the number of indexed publications, citations received, h-index, co-authorship and a composite indicator (score).

For the second consecutive year, UIC Barcelona researchers are included in the prestigious ranking prepared by Stanford University. The results are compiled in two different lists: the first one gathers the most cited people throughout 2023; the second one ranks the most important researchers based on their entire career, measured until 1 August 2024.

The first list includes researchers and lecturers from the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is represented in this ranking with the vice-rector of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer of the University, Román Pérez; as well as Ramon Grimalt, dermatologist and professor of the Department of Medicine.

On behalf of the Faculty of Dentistry, the ranking includes the professor and head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Federico Hernández-Alfaro; the professor and head of Periodontology, José Nart; the researcher and lecturer Jordi Gargallo; and the professor of Periodontology Alberto Monje.

Also included in the ranking is Lorenzo Chelleri, a researcher from UIC Barcelona School of Architecture.

UIC Barcelona is also present in the list drawn up by Stanford University that recognises researchers with a career in research that has an impact in their field of work. Specifically, the list includes Xavier Gil, director of the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) and the department of Bioengineering; as well as Federico Hernández-Alfaro and Alberto Monje, professor and lecturer respectively at the Faculty of Dentistry, for their extensive scientific work within their respective areas.

The ranking of world scientists, “World's Top 2% Scientists” from Stanford University, published in the journal Elsevier, is compiled based on various parameters, such as the number of indexed publications, citations received, h-index, co-authorship or a composite indicator (score), after analysing the information provided by the Scopus database.
