The 8th edition of Health Promotion Day assembles close to 290 people on the Sant Cugat Campus

With the support of the Sant Cugat City Council and in partnership with the Emergency Medical Services (SEM), students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing had a chance to show upper-secondary and higher vocational education and training students from Catalonia the importance of prevention and first aid

On 30 March, the Sant Cugat Campus hosted a new edition of Health Promotion Day. Over 80 volunteers from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at UIC Barcelona showed the group of almost 215 young spectators the risks of alcohol and drug use and effects of bullying and how to provide first aid in everyday situations.

Under the banner “What happens when you go too far?”, the event began outside on the grounds of the campus with a theatrical representation in which a group of young people pretended to have drunk more than is advisable. Afterwards, the participants took part in several practical workshops in which students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing taught them about the effects alcohol and drug use has on the senses and how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid techniques and act in the face of bullying or abuse.

In the eight editions held thus far, Health Promotion Day has reached 2,300 young men and women throughout Catalonia and given the students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing an opportunity to put their knowledge into practice as teachers.

For yet another year, the Department of Nursing extended Health Promotion Day to upper secondary and higher vocational education teachers, with a workshop organised specifically for them on 14 March.
