Alumni Association Launches Global Biz Club, UIC Barcelona’s First Professional Club

David Hernández, the CEO of Pangea: The Travel Factory, was the guest speaker at the first session of Global Biz Club. According to its founder, Pangea is a “category killer that will change the way consumers plan their holidays”. Luis Carbó, the President of Global Biz Club and a 2014 Business Administration graduate, explained that “the purpose of the club is to enable networking”.

Carbó and his Vice President, Toni Montes, began the session by welcoming those present. “These sessions offer an ideal opportunity to meet different speakers who will tell us about their experiences in the business world, whether from the perspective of entrepreneurship, marketing or industry in general. It is also an invaluable forum for networking”, explained Carbó.

During his talk, the entrepreneur and qualified engineer David Hernández spoke about Pangea: The Travel Factory, a project he launched in September. He believes it will become a “category killer” that will completely transform the way we look at travel agencies today. “The industry is so moribund that it needs a complete overhaul. The idea is not to set up a new shop, but to develop an entire industry", he explained.

According to Hernández, the anticipated success of his platform is based on the fact that there is still no attractive means of focusing on the planning and sale of holiday packages. “We want to create the Decathlon of travel agencies, by perfectly integrating the physical and digital worlds”, he said. “The great thing about the Internet is that it’s infinite, but that also makes it a nightmare”. The model presented by Hernández is reminiscent of the IKEA concept, where customers not only go to shop but also to browse, eat and simply pass the time or find inspiration.

This first session of Global Biz Club ended on a high note and further activities are expected for the coming months. Both Carbó and Montes encouraged those present to come along to future sessions and spread the word amongst the rest of the alumni.
