Argemí Receives 2013 COMB Professional Excellence Award
Dr. Josep Argemí has received the 2013 Award for Professional Excellence from the Official Association of Physicians of Barcelona (COMB). He is the director of the UIC Institute of Advanced Bioethics Studies and the University's former Rector (2001-2010).
The COMB granted the award to 42 physicians and four healthcare teams deemed outstanding by panels of respected physicians for their "excellence and quality in professional activity".
Núria de Gispert, the President of the Parliament of Catalonia, personally presented the award to Argemí. COMB members attending the event included President Miquel Vilardell, First Vice President Jaume Padrós and Secretary Pilar Arrizabalaga.
Argemí received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Navarra and is a professor of Paediatrics. He expressed real appreciation for the award recognizing his professional activity. Before becoming director of the Institute of Advanced Bioethics Studies, Argemí served as the Rector of the UIC for nine years. Prior to that, he had been the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The award recognizes his long-standing dedication to university teaching and management in health sciences. As the Rector, he pushed for the creation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which made the UIC the first private university in Catalonia to offer a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine (2008). He has also collaborated with the Institute of Health Studies and was involved in the development of further education programmes for paediatricians as the President of the Catalan Society of Paediatrics.
This is the tenth time that the annual Awards for Professional Excellence have been given. They allow the COMB to recognize physicians and healthcare teams of the highest quality that embrace the values that shape the medical profession.
