Javi Carreras, a former student in the Faculty of Audiovisual Communication, and six other young people spent most of their summer in Iraq with a two-fold objective: to help families affected by war and persecuted by the Islamic State terrorist group, and to film a documentary that tells their story and shows the world what is happening.

The Guardians of the Faith, as they call themselves, are: Jaume Vives, producer and director of the project; Javi Carreras, 21 years old, director of the documentary and a former student at the UIC Barcelona; Alfredo Panadero, 24 years old, also a director of the documentary; Juan Villanueva, engineering student and co-producer of the project; Eulalia Vivens, 21 years old, psychology student and aid worker; Carlos Toda, lawyer, journalist and aid worker; and Blanca Zazu, aid worker.

The documentary was filmed from 7 to 30 August 2015 in the northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan and surrounding areas: the capital, Erbil, cities such as Kirkuk and Alqosh, and two military fronts, i.e. the town of Tesqopa, 2 km from the Islamic State, and the mountain of En Alsa Frara, half a kilometre from the jihadist group.

Interviews were done with members of the Christian minority in the country, including bishops, nuns, fathers, mothers and children, i.e. people who are suffering from persecution, torture, kidnapping and death in Iraq and who have lost everything because of their beliefs.

Some of these witnesses appear on the project's website. The documentary is scheduled for release in December 2015.
