The Banco Sabadell Foundation is working with UIC Barcelona on the Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives project

Promoted by the University's Faculty of Dentistry, the main aim of the project is to provide oral health care to the most vulnerable groups and to encourage a transformative change among students through the UIC Barcelona University Clinic of Dentistry and the support of entities with a strong social commitment such as the Banco Sabadell Foundation

Both entities share common values and the desire to contribute to the progress and well-being of society, especially through the promotion of young talent. Therefore, the Banco Sabadell Foundation, which develops projects in the field of education and research, as well as culture and the arts, has joined the initiative developed by the Faculty of Dentistry and its university clinic. Through the Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives programme, the University has signed collaboration agreements with more than 22 entities, including municipalities, primary care centres, foundations and other public and private organisations. They all offer oral care and workshops to promote healthy habits, referring patients who need treatment to the UIC Barcelona’s University Clinic of Dentistry.

By collaborating with socially committed organisations such as the Banco Sabadell Foundation, the project not only helps to look after the oral health of the most vulnerable, but it also helps to train future dentists from a comprehensive and humanistic perspective, placing the person at the centre. “We are proud to have the support of charitable organisations such as the Banco Sabadell Foundation and it motivates us to continue with social initiatives that not only allow us to improve the health of the people who need it most, but also help us to train our students as people committed to society and their patients”, explains Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Since its inception, the Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives project has helped 1000 people, with the participation of 80 teachers and 420 third-, fourth- and fifth-year students of the Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry.
