The city of Barcelona is growing more and more in terms of the provision of venture capital for entrepreneurs. In some circles Barcelona is now being seen in the same way that Sillicon Valley was in the United States at one time. 

This is what was discussed by Ernest Sánchez, EU Partner at Entrée Capital; Daniel Sánchez, General Partner at Nauta Capital; Josep Sanfeliu, General Partner at Ysios Capital and Miquel Martí, CEO of Barcelona Tech City. The discussion was moderated by Mateu Hernández, CEO of Barcelona Global. 

The speakers gave their own personal viewpoints and shared some successful cases which they had experienced in this area in their own organisations. Ernest Sánchez for example talked about a successful case with a video application linked to Snapchat. On the other hand, Daniel Sánchez talked about the case of Privalia, a company that managed to get through a crisis due to the fact its founders have never lost their entrepreneurial spirit.

Sánchez gave an encouraging message to students by saying that “in order for Barcelona to become an entrepreneurial hub, we need students to be entrepreneurial”. It is not something that happens overnight, he explained, and said it is in fact a series of actions that mean that a city can become a hub for a specific type of activity. Miquel Martí talked about the activities being carried out at Barcelona Tech City to position the city in the field of technology. 

This round table took place within the context of our new Master’s Degree in Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital and Private Equity. This is a unique programme in which entrepreneurship and venture capital are brought together, aimed at people who would like to develop and lead innovative projects in large companies and SMEs.  This master’s degree is taught in English and takes a highly practical approach, the theory is based on real cases and the seminars use case methodology.
