Bioengineering students visit the Catalan Institute for Bioengineering

With this trip, the first-year students had the opportunity to become familiar with one of the world's premier interdisciplinary research centres

First-year students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Bioengineering were recently given a tour of the Catalan Institute for Bioengineering (IBEC), a visit organised as part of the subjects Biomaterials and Biocompatibility and Molecular and Cellular Biology.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to see what the IBEC is all about, its facilities and how they are organised and its research groups. They also took a first-hand look at the numerous research projects currently being undertaken at the centre and found out more about the job opportunities available to Bioengineering degree holders.

In particular, the future bioengineers were given an up-close look at the projects “iPSCs & Activation of endogenous tissue programmes”, involving Núria Montserrat, and “Biomimetic systems for cell engineering”, directed by Elena Martínez.

To wrap things up, the students visited the labs run by Elisabeth Engel and observed the work and techniques used by her Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies Group.
