Book by Dr. Junceda Analyses Mining Law and Environment

Dr. Javier Junceda, the Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, has published the book «Minería y Medio Ambiente ante el Derecho» (Mining and the Environment from a Legal Perspective), published by the Universidad de Cajamarca (Peru), from which he holds an honorary degree.

In
the book, Junceda addresses the issues surrounding the complex relationship between
environmental protection and natural resource extraction, which is of utmost importance
in modern-day Peru, one of the most mineral-rich countries on the planet.

The
work analyses two current theories on the topic. First, it takes an in-depth look
at the criteria that must be established to design environmental policy that
takes into account the many interrelationships among ecological and economic
variables. Second, it analyses theories that maintain that, in the long term, technological
development is a valid solution to the incompatibility of economic growth and environmental
protection.

Throughout
his career, Junceda has combined legal practice and academia in Spain and Latin America. He
is the author of numerous publications and has participated in different
university research projects and scientific courses. He is a corresponding
academic with the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and the
Asturian Academy of Jurisprudence; an honorary member of the Bar Association of
Lima and La Libertad (Peru) and an honorary
and visiting professor at six other universities in the Americas.
