The Bosch Aymerich Family Business Chair helps create the Family Council's practical guide
This is the first joint project undertaken with the Catalan Association of Family Businesses (ASCEF)
The UIC Barcelona Bosch Aymerich Family Business Chair has taken part in writing a practical guide on the role of the Family Council, which aims to encourage Catalan family businesses to implement this corporate governance instrument. This is the first joint project undertaken with the Catalan Association of Family Businesses (ASCEF), which forms part of the Family Businesses Institute’s network of chairs.
Lecturer Antoni Bosch from the Faculty of Law represented UIC Barcelona at the presentation of the guide and argued that it is "prudent to set up this type of family corporate governance body". In fact, only three out of ten family businesses currently have access to the Family Council, a voluntary, self-managed and debate-oriented organisation which focuses on making strategic decisions about businesses; acting as a link between the family, the board of directors and the business’ management; preparing the business for family succession and preventing family conflicts.
The director of the Bosch Aymerich Chair of UIC Barcelona, Jordi de Juan, and lecturer Antoni Bosch, will make the guide available to all family businesses free of charge through the ASCEF website. The document has been produced jointly by the business chairs from Abat Oliba CEU University, the University of Barcelona, the University of Girona, the University of Lleida, as well as with cooperation from the law firm Cuatrecasas.
