Bosch Publishes Book on Fundamentals of Aristotle's Ethics

?Bueno y Hermoso' (Good and Beautiful) is the most recent book published by Dr. Magda Bosch, a professor in the UIC Faculty of Humanities.

In the book, the author attempts to engage people living in the middle of the 21st century with the intellectual heritage of Aristotle that has been passed down through the centuries. The book specifically discusses his doctrine of ethics following the same structure as The Nicomachean Ethics and analysing its fundamental concepts.

Aristotle reached such a deep understanding of human consciousness and was able to explain it so simply that his ethics continues to be a valid point of reference today. According to Aristotelian ethics, virtuous actions are not done out of self-interest or to gain good favour with others, but because they promote well-being, which is everyone's goal. We try to live well because it is good and beautiful to do so.

Dr. Bosch studied Philosophy at the Universitat de Barcelona, where she won the prize for Extraordinary Undergraduate Achievement in 1992. In 1996 she defended her doctoral thesis "The Metaphysics of Intentionality" and went on to teach classes on metaphysics and theory of knowledge at the UB. She has been a professor of Philosophy in the UIC Faculty of Humanities since 1998 and has published several articles on subjects such as the anthropology of intentionality and freedom; body, face and identity; and the aesthetics of Romanticism. Apart from Bueno y Hermoso, Dr. Bosch has also published books such as Para una Metafísica de la Intencionalidad, Metafísica de la Intencionalidad and, most recently, El Poder de la Belleza, which appeared in 2012.
