Bosco Gutiérrez Relives Captivity during Presentation of Biography

On Tuesday, 17 April 2012, Mexican architect Bosco Gutiérrez gave a talk to the university community following the recent publication of a book about his time in captivity, titled 257 días. Bosco: la historia real de un hombre que se negó a darse por vencido (257 Days. Bosco: the True Story of a Man Who Refused to Give Up), which was written by Father José Pedro Manglano.

Seven years after Gutiérrez gave a lecture at
the UIC, the Mexican architect returned to the university to talk about his
experience of being kidnapped and held hostage in a tiny cell in Mexico for nine
months in 1990.

Gutiérrez has
always explained that during his kidnapping he reached a point where he lost
the will to live, but then realized that he had to keep his spirits up and stay
healthy, because, he said, “I was part of a family that was trying to rescue me”.
Father José Pedro Manglano
presented his recently published book about Gutiérrez's kidnapping and the
ordeal he went through.

Kidnappings
in Mexico
normally only last a week, but
Gutiérrez was held for nine months in a
tiny cell where he learned how to take charge of his life and find true
freedom. In short,
Manglano's book is the true story of how
powerful faith can be when one is on the brink of death.

The session took place at
the UIC on Tuesday, 17 April
2012, and was organized by the Vice Rector of the University
Community. As well as students, it was attended by teaching and administrative
staff from the university.
