Candela Calle, New General Director of the Catalan Institute of Health

Candela Calle, a Professor and member of the Teaching Committee for the Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management at UIC Barcelona, has been named the new General Director of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) the largest state provider of healthcare services in Catalonia . The 38.000 professionals employed by this institute care for more than 6 million people.  The Executive Governing Board agreed to appoint her after her name was put forward at plenary session held by the Board of Directors of the institution the week before. The appointment of Ms Calle – who is also General Director of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) - was eventually ratified by the Healthcare Councillor for the Catalan Government, Antoni Comín, as well as the Government’s Executive Board.

Holder of a degree in Medicine and a diploma in business leadership, Calle is a member of various Boards and Committees, and a professor and member of the Teaching Committee for the Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management at UIC Barcelona.  She was formerly Director of the Hospital Arnau in Vilanova de Lleida, Assistant Director of Clinical and Medical Management at the Hospital Sant Pau and Executive Director of the Social Healthcare Services in the Corporación Sanitaria Parc Taulí.  The Board of Directors also gave the green light to the new Plan for the Classification of Human Resources for the 2016-2020 academic year, a strategic document which last week was unanimously ratified by all the syndicates represented at the Sectorial Table (Médicos de Cataluña , CCOO, Satse, UGT and Catac-CTS / IAC).
