Carles Gasòliba Joins Jean Monnet Foundation Executive Council
On Friday, 16 November 2012, Carlos Gasòliba, a member of the UIC Academic and Social Council and the Chairman of the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB), was appointed member of the Executive Council of the Jean Monnet Foundation during a meeting held by the institution's General Assembly.
The Jean Monnet
Foundation for Europe is an independent institution located in Switzerland. It
was created by Jean Monnet in 1978 and has since been declared an institution
of public interest by the Swiss authorities. The internationally renowned
foundation manages an important legacy for and in the interest of all
Europeans. With its head offices on the Lausanne University campus, the
foundation is a place for testimony, research, reflection and exchange on
European issues and is made up of prominent dignitaries involved in European affairs.
Carles Gasòliba is the chairman of the CIDOB
and has been a member of the UIC Academic and Social Council since its
founding. Gasòliba has a PhD in Economics from the Universitat Autònoma de
Barcelona and a Master's Degree in Industrial Economics from the University of
Sussex in Great Britain. His areas of expertise are economics and EU
institutional relations. He is a full member of the Spanish Royal Academy of
Economics and Finance and of the Philosophy and Social Science Section of the Institute
for Catalan Studies. He was a member of the European Parliament for 18 years, during
which time he was the spokesman for the Liberal Group in the Economic and
Monetary Affairs Committee. He also served as a member of the Spanish Senate,
during which time he was the Chairman of the Senate Economy and Treasury
Committee. He is currently the Chairman of the Spanish Committee of the
European League for Economic Cooperation (LECE) and of its Mediterranean
Committee in Brussels.
