The director of the UIC Barcelona Chair of Mission Leadership and Corporate Government and lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, Carlos Rey, has published the second edition of book Management by Missions. Connecting people to strategy through purpose. Published by Palgrave Macmillan as an open-access text (free download), the book compiles research on the subject undertaken over the course of 15 years with more than 200 organisations around the world.
“The ideas put forward in the book mark the journey towards a new twenty-first century management method and a new way of understanding the work of managers”, explains Rey, who advocates the evolution of the traditional concept of a corporate mission to a broader concept of corporate purpose that includes broader societal needs.
The book has been written in collaboration with the dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), Pablo Cardona, and also explores and identifies the relationship between corporate culture and financial performance.
