Carmen Muñoz-Almagro, new full professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Dr Muñoz-Almagro has taken over the position of full professor at UIC Barcelona in the area of Medicine

Dr Carmen Muñoz-Almagro has obtained the highest level of academic recognition within the university sphere, having achieved academic, professional, teaching and research merits. 
 
She holds an undergraduate degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Navarra, a PhD from the University of Barcelona and is a specialist in microbiology and clinical parasitology. She currently manages the Department of Molecular Microbiology at the Hospital San Juan de Dios in Barcelona, president of the Catalan Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology and a leading figure in paediatrics. She dovetails these positions with her role as a lecturer at UIC Barcelona, teaching subjects such as infectious diseases and microbiology for the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine.
 
Dr Muñoz-Almagro primarily researches highly prevalent vaccine-preventable infectious diseases in paediatrics, diagnostic innovation in clinical microbiology and studies the human microbiome. As part of her work in these fields, she leads Group 57 of the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health and coordinates the infectious diseases and systemic inflammatory response in paediatrics research group at the San Juan de Dios Research Institute. She has published over 180 academic articles, supervised 12 doctoral theses and led over 40 research projects with both a national and international scope.
