Celebrating 200 Years of «La Pepa»

On Wednesday, 21 November 2012, Dr. Félix Martínez, a professor of History of Law and Institutions at the Universidad de Valladolid, gave a lecture on the Spanish Constitution as part of the continuing education programme in the Faculty of Law.

The lecture, which was titled “A
look at the new governance provisions of the Spanish Constitution of 1812: municipalities
and provinces”, took place in the UIC Graduate Hall and marked the bicentennial
of the Spanish Constitution, which is known by the nickname “La Pepa”.

In his speech, Dr. Martínez gave a detailed
overview of the origins of the Spanish Constitution of 1812 and in particular
the way in which it helped strengthen local authorities, which, as a result of
the new legislation, saw significant development in terms of skills and
activities that in many respects has survived to this day.
