Ceramics Chair Students Win Prizes in Cevisama Competition for 11th Consecutive Year

Four students in the ASCER Ceramics Chair at the UIC’s ESARQ School of Architecture won prizes at the Cevisama Lab International Design Competition. They won two first prizes, a second prize and an honourable mention. This is the eleventh year running that students from the ESARQ School of Architecture have received awards in the competition.

The prize winners were Àngels Garcia (first prize in the extruded category), Basile Ribas (first prize in the pressed category), Joan Marc Garcés (second prize in the extruded category) and Guillem Díaz (honourable mention in the extruded category).

Originality, versatility and functionality were the main criteria used to select the prize winners, who were recognized by a judging panel made up of renowned professionals from the fields of design, architecture, journalism and business.

Vicente Sarrablo, the Director of the Ceramics Chair, said that he felt very proud and happy with the prizes, and pointed out that the recognition of the work of its students in the ceramic design awards held within the framework of the Cevisama Fair was an example of the professionalization of the Chair, given that ESARQ students have won awards in the eleven consecutive editions of the competition.

The projects presented in the different categories of the Cevisama Lab International Design Competition will be on display during the Cevisama international exhibition, which will be held in Valencia from 9 to 13 February 2015. These awards highlight the high level of work produced every year in the ESARQ Ceramic Chair, which is sponsored by ASCER.

The prizes were the icing on the cake in the Ceramic Chair’s tenth anniversary celebrations, which culminated in November 2014 with an exhibition at the Architecture Institute of Catalonia (COAC) called Barcelona Ceramics, a selection of 20 special ceramic works to commemorate the Chair’s first ten years.
