Christmas Charity Project Collects Tonne of Food

UIC Student Services once again organized the Christmas Charity Project, which this year went under the slogan ?400 Reasons to Celebrate Christmas?. In total, more than a tonne of food was collected for more than 400 needy families in the Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona.

The food was destined for the food collection
campaign Montalegre Social Action (ASM), which distributes food parcels to the
neediest families in the Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona each year. The amount
of food collected by the UIC was sufficient to meet the needs of more than 400
families.

During the campaign, which ran from 26 November
to 11 December 2012, four collection points were set up on the Barcelona campus
and the Sant Cugat campus. Students, teaching staff, and administration and
services personnel were able to take their charity food bags along to the
collection points. More than 60 students volunteered to take part in collecting
and transporting the food, and distributing it to the 400 beneficiary families living
in the Raval neighbourhood.

This is the third time the university has
participated in this campaign, which this year focused on more than just the
material aspects of food collection and instead drew attention to the reasons
to celebrate Christmas. The slogan was “400 Reasons to Celebrate Christmas”.

The food collection campaign corresponds to one
of the four values promoted by the university, i.e. social commitment.
