Clinical psychologist Iris Pérez-Bonaventura presents the book “Anxiety: it happens to me too”
With her work, the lecturer in the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and psychologist at the Support University Clinic offers a practical manual for young people and adolescents to learn how to effectively manage academic, social, personal and family stress
As Iris Pérez-Bonaventura explains, “adolescence is a critical stage in which one in three young people suffer from an anxiety disorder and one in twelve will have serious problems in school and at home, with friends or in activities where high performance is required.” The COVID-19 pandemic has made this situation even worse, making anxiety disorder the most common mental health problem among young people worldwide.
In recent years at both the Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell and at the Support University Clinic of UIC Barcelona, Pérez-Bonaventura has seen how the cases of young people and adolescents suffering from anxiety due to academic pressure have increased. Added to this is the constant use of social networks, the emergence of toxic relationships, or bullying, among others. “I think it is very important to equip young people with tools that allow them to identify how they feel, reduce the suffering caused by anxiety, and teach them techniques and strategies to control the level of stress,” explains the clinical psychologist and lecturer. “The objective of this book is born out of a will to become an easy-to-read and accessible manual to improve the quality of life of our young people.”
