Clinical Simulation: A New Learning Method
On Wednesday and Thursday, 14-15 March 2012, Montse Virumbrales and Encarna Rodríguez, professors in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, attended a teaching course on clinical simulation in Santander.
A
dozen medical and nursing professionals from throughout Spain took part
in the Teaching Course on Clinical Stimulation, whose main objective was to
highlight the value of simulation as a teaching tool. The course defined
clinical simulation as “a new method for learning and training that combines
knowledge, skills and human factors”.
In
most of the sessions, the participants were organized into groups in order to
design, develop, analyse and discuss various clinical cases using highly
realistic Laerdal SimMan patient simulators.
Professor
of Medicine Montse Virumbrales, who
attended the course, said, “The course was mainly practical but there were also
some theoretical sessions that focused on the fundamentals of patient
simulation”. Among the various theoretical sessions, the attendees learned how
to train students on the design of different scenarios, how to set up the
“debriefing” system and how to apply video-analysis techniques.
