The CMJ Godó Foundation is working in conjunction with the AIDIR unit at UIC Barcelona once again this year

The Foundation has thus provided recognition for the work carried out by the Nursing, Teaching and Research Unit (AIDIR) at UIC Barcelona aimed at people and families at risk of social exclusion from the Ciutat Vella district in Barcelona

For the third consecutive year, the CMJ Godó Foundation, whose mission consists of funding projects and helping people at risk of social exclusion, has destined part of its financial aid programme to the AIDIR Ciutat Vella unit at UIC Barcelona. Set up by the University Nursing Department, AIDIR is an initiative whose mission is to promote people’s good health in terms of self-care and promote healthy lifestyles through a service-learning project.

Students taking a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing who carried out their work placements at the AIDIR unit developed and undertook various activities to promote good health such as educational and group sessions, workshops and the creation and development of educational materials. Through these activities, attendees gain more tools to make better health-related decisions, a better health-related education, more autonomy in terms of self-care, and enhance the development of behavioural, emotional, social and cognitive abilities. In addition, the involvement of students from the start, always with supervision from a tutor, allows them to enhance nursing leadership and develop an attitude of solidarity, sensitivity and social responsibility, awakening their interest in certain needs or situations, as well as reinforcing their human values.

The activities that have been carried out by the AIDIR Ciutat Vella unit since it was set up in 2016 is the direct result of the commitment of UIC Barcelona to the most vulnerable groups and to training future health professionals. In order to carry out this project, UIC Barcelona cooperates with the Esperanza Foundation and receives support from other organisations such as the CMJ Godó Foundation.
