Commitment to talent and generosity in the grants award ceremony

As part of the of Feast of Saint Thomas celebration, UIC Barcelona has recognised the effort of more than 1,000 grant students, in an event with representatives from the businesses that contribute to the University’s Grants and Funding Programme

Today, UIC Barcelona celebrated the grant award ceremony for the 2022-2023 academic year in the University’s Aula Magna. The event, organised during the celebration of the Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of universities, spotlights the student and recognises their academic excellence and thus promotes equal opportunities.

The event was attended by more than 140 students of the who were among over 1,000 UIC Barcelona grant students invited, who were either receiving this funding for the first time or because this is their last year at the University. The students were represented by Ignacio Lorda, a student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management, who gave a speech thanking companies and the University for committing to talent for the opportunity they provided, and Laura Guix, Journalism alumni from the 2021-2022 graduating class.

Likewise, the awarding of grants was attended by representatives from the businesses that contributed in the last academic year to the University’s Grant and Funding Programme, and who personally gave the students the diploma certifying their grant. This year’s event was attended by representatives from the following entities: Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, Damm Foundation, Maria Pou-Lunet Foundation, Maria Teresa Rodó Foundation, Mullor Facility Services, Santander Universities and Torrella Ingeniería-Arquitectura. Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, president of Santander Universities and vice-president of Universia spoke on behalf of the companies. 

The Event was opened by the rector of UIC Barcelona, Alfonso Méndiz, who thanked the businesses for their contribution to the Grants and Funding Programme, and was closed by the vice-rector of the University Community, Esther Jiménez, who congratulated the students receiving grants and encouraged them to continue their path aiming for excellence. Deans from other faculties also attended in support of their grant students.

With this event, UIC Barcelona publicly congratulates all the grant students and acknowledges the commitment to education by all businesses and individuals who have committed to future talent. The Grants and Funding Programme is part of the annual campaign #NoTalentWithoutAFuture, which this academic year has revolved around the slogan “It ALL starts with you.”
