Pulmobiotics, the first Spanish biotech company based on synthetic biology, founded by Maria Lluch, lecturer on the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences of UIC Barcelona, has received the Spanish National Innovation Award for the creation of a scientific company, conferred by the Catalan Government and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation
In actual fact, Pulmobiotics SL has received the award for its creation as a scientific company. It is a spin-off from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), founded by researchers Maria Lluch and Luis Serrano, which uses synthetic biology to develop new treatments and vaccines for respiratory diseases.
It is the first Spanish biotech company based on synthetic biology, whose aim it is to treat respiratory tract diseases using live biotherapeutic products (LBPs).
The annual Spanish National Research Awards recognise and reflect the different facets of both research activity and initiatives in scientific communication and dissemination, scientific patronage and public and private cooperation in R&I projects in Catalonia.
