Dr Conrado Aparicio has received the highest academic distinction at university level to add to his academic and research merits in the international sphere.
Conrado Aparicio is an expert in the science and engineering of dental biomaterials. Trained as a materials engineer, Dr Aparicio began his career at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, eventually completing his doctorate there. He later moved to the University of Minnesota (USA), where he spent more than twelve years in the Department of Restorative Sciences, and was the deputy director of the Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics (MDRCBB).
In 2021, Aparicio joined the UIC Barcelona’s Faculty of Dentistry within the framework of the FBA Fellows programme promoted by the Bosch Aymerich Foundation. As a result of this programme, Dr Aparicio has also recently joined the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) as an associate researcher. He is also a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
Throughout his career as a researcher, Aparicio and his team have worked in multidisciplinary research on biomaterials and bioinspired interfaces to direct biological responses to encourage repair and regeneration of bone and oral mucosa, as well as preventing bacterial infections in dental applications.
