Contribute to the ‘Guardianes de la Fe’ (Guardians of Faith) documentary

This summer a group of seven young people travelled to Iraq to film a documentary on Christians persecuted by the terrorist Group Islamic State and the victims of war while also teaching Spanish to refugee children after a request from Father Douglas, an Iraqi priest.

Their aim is to make clear to the Western world the horror and misfortune experienced by these people who have lost everything and who no-one wants to help. They also aim to show the example of the Faith and bravery of the Christians mentioned above.

The Guardianes de la Fe is a name that refers to Christians who preferred to lose everything in order to "guard" their Faith. In this case they are Jaume Vives, aged 23, who is the producer and director of the project, as well as co-director of the documentary. Javi Carreras, aged 21 , is the director of the documentary and an Audiovisual Communication graduate from UIC Barcelona. Alfredo Panadero, aged 24, is the engineer and co-producer of both the project and the documentary. Eulàlia Vives, is a 21-year-old psychology student and aid worker. Carlos Toda, aged 21, is a lawyer, journalist and aid worker, and Blanca Zazu is an aid worker.

They managed to obtain funding to film the documentary by holding a fund-raising dinner to raise awareness about their project before their trip.  Thanks to those donations as well as help from Ayuda a la Iglesia Necesitada, the Abat Oliba CEU University and KELME, in August 2015 they were able to spend 23 days with Iraqi refugees.

The Faculty of Communication Sciences and the UIC Barcelona University Students In Solidarity Service have organised a fundraising dinner to be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday 28 October on our Iradier campus (c. Immaculada 22, Barcelona) to try to obtain funding for the post-production stage of the Guardianes de la Fe documentary.  During dinner they will screen the material they filmed in Iraq and will describe what they experienced with all the people they filmed to attendees.  After the opening session there will be a few refreshments available as well as a colloquium session for all attendees.
