Corporate communication expert María Luisa Martínez Gistau is patron for the Faculty of Communication Sciences graduation

Director of Communications and International Relations at CaixaBank, María Luisa Martínez Gistau, gave the commencement speech at the graduation ceremony at the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Students from degrees in Advertising and Public Relations, Journalism, Audiovisual Communication and the Master’s Degree in Fashion Communication and Marketing at UIC Barcelona attended the graduation ceremony at the University's Aula Magna.

Pedro Sigaud, dean of the Faculty, presided over the graduation ceremony for more than one hundred students. This year, María Luisa Martínez Gistau was patron of the ceremony. Director of Communications and International Relations at CaixaBank, she was named Best Dircom in Spain in 2022 by Forbes.

Martínez Gistau spoke about digital disruption and the impact it has on communication: "We have to face up to immediacy, and the fact that, for the first time, we are unable to process all the technological knowledge that we receive every day.” In this context, the communications expert highlighted the importance of humanistic, ethical and deontological values: “Our work is based on the two ‘Ts‘; surround yourself with Talent, and face up to Transformation.” She quoted Einstein, echoing his remark that “where there's a will, there’s a way”.

Two class representatives from each of the bachelor’s degrees and the master's degree gave a speech about their time at the university.  Pedro Sigaud brought the event to a close, reminding all students that “UIC Barcelona will always be your second home”.
