The Chair for Management by Missions and Corporate Purpose held a new Chair Breakfast, this time with David Reyero, senior HR Business Partner & Strategic Projects at Sanofi, titled: “Sanofi: playing to win, living our purpose.” Sanofi is a multinational global biopharmaceutical firm focused on people’s health.

David Reyero reviewed the four basic pillars of Sanofi pharmaceutical company’s strategic plan: innovation, reinvention, efficiency and focus. “Sanofi detects and focuses on the areas where they can make the most impact on society while innovating the way we work and our products.” Similarly, “we invest better and control expenses to be able to reinvest in science and reinvent ourselves to promote new ways of working,” Reyero added.

Sanofi workers use the Ikigai methodology, which finds the person’s purpose in what they love, what they do well, and in how it is profitable in terms of work. For Reyero, balancing the economic results of a company is the easiest part; however, for him, creating vision and purpose in employees is the hardest, where the real challenge lies. “Purpose helps you in the bad weeks, months, years. If there is a vision of the future and there is purpose, everything works. Business success is collective,” Reyero emphasised.

One of the biopharmaceutical company’s principles caring for people: “It’s not just about processing orders; I’m helping an oncology drug reach the patient, being aware of the impact of the delivery time.” In this sense, Sanofi attempts that “people look a little more toward the sky and not at the computer.”

Sanofi is a multinational company committed to society. Some of the actions they take include facilitating access to drugs through donations to the world’s 40 poorest countries. They also carry out actions to improve the health of people suffering from specific diseases in third world countries.

The Chair Breakfasts are monthly meetings that encourage reflection on purpose and business among academics and managers and are promoted by the Chair for Direction by Missions at UIC Barcelona.
