Deloitte’s Director of Human Resources Gives Talk on Importance of Human Resources Departments to Companies

Maite Poyos, the Director of Deloitte's Human Resources (HR) Department, gave a talk to fourth-year Business Administration students on the importance of HR departments to companies.

“The HR Director must be someone who lends confidence to the whole organization and is able to create a climate of trust”, Poyos began. She went on to talk about the specific way Deloitte deals with matters such as recruitment, rotation and strategic roles, before focusing on the question of generating and communicating a certain culture. “Culture-related issues are the biggest challenges for HR”, she admitted.

Poyos then spoke about the type of candidate today’s businesses are looking for. “They want people with a wide range of skills: people who are extroverted, hardworking, committed, versatile, organized, confident, happy, diplomatic, good negotiators, talented – and a whole lot more besides!”, she said, pointing out that companies now tend to speak about skills, rather than technical competences.

The session formed part of the module on Strategic Management, which is taught by Drs. Carlos Rey and Marta Mas.
