The Department of Nursing presents a training course to improve the working environment in intensive care units

This course is the result of the project “Ambiente laboral saludable para las enfermeras y enfermeros de cuidados intensivos” (HWE4CCN) (Healthy Working Environments for Intensive Care Nurses) funded by the Erasmus+ programme

UIC Barcelona, represented by researchers Dr Mireia Llaurado and Ms Cristina Alfonso, teachers from the Nursing Department, recently participated in the project “Ambiente laboral saludable para las enfermeras y enfermeros de vigilancia intensiva (HWE4CCN)”, funded by the Erasmus+ (KA2) programme. One of the main objectives of this European project, coordinated by the Cyprus Nurses & Midwives Association (*CYNMA), was the creation of a training course to improve the working environment in intensive care units. aimed to be taught face-to-face despite having an online part as well, to adapt to the pandemic we are currently experiencing. Together with *UIC Barcelona, researchers from Romania, Croatia and Poland also participated in the initiative.

On December 14, researchers first introduced this standard-based tool from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses: Specialised communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making, adequate staffing, meaningful recognition, and genuine leadership. The course is free of charge and is aimed at training trainers about working environments so they can transfer the knowledge gained to nurses in their institutions. At the same time, it also provides tools to train these professionals in terms of creating a healthy working environment through specific content and activities available in English, as the working language, and also in the languages of the five countries participating in the project.
