Diploma in Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery

In April and May 2012, the Faculty of Dentistry organized a continuing education course on orthognathic surgery, which was run by orthodontics experts and maxillofacial surgeons. The students received a diploma on completion of the course.

The course takes
place every two years and this was the third edition. It teaches the basics of
a good facial examination and surgical decision making. The main objectives of
the course are to introduce students to combined orthodontic and orthognathic
surgical treatments to enable them to make accurate diagnoses and plan
treatment for orthognathic surgery patients. The course places particular
emphasis on facial analysis and preparing orthodontic and surgical treatment
plans.

The course also
provides knowledge on the different treatment options in terms of surgical
techniques and helps professionals in various specialist areas carry out
surgery with an interdisciplinary approach.

The
course is aimed at orthodontists and maxillofacial surgeons who are interested
in updating their knowledge on combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgical
treatments.

The third module
ended with surgery, which was taught by prestigious surgeons Dr. Arturo Bilbao Alonso, Dr. Miguel Burgueño, Dr. Javier González-Lagunas, Dr. Raquel Guijarro and Armando Noorbeck. The course directors were Dr. Andreu Puigdollers and
Dr. Federico Hernández-Alfaro and it was coordinated by Dr. Ana
Molina.
