Director of Europa FM Shares Keys to Good Programming Strategy
On Thursday, 21 February 2013, Patricio Sánchez, the director of the Spanish pop music radio station Europa FM, gave a lecture on programming strategies for radio stations to fourth-year Audiovisual Communication students as part of the subject Programming Strategies, given by professor Francesc Robert.
During the lecture, Sánchez discussed specific programming strategies that can be used by stations with a well-defined programming format such as Europa FM. Since Patricio Sánchez took over as director of the pop music station seven years ago, the station has gone from 140,000 listeners to almost two and a half million. It is a particularly successful example of how this type of programming works.
Throughout the lecture, students were able to compare the theory of how to create a window of opportunity in the fully developed radio broadcast industry with a successful real-life example. The talk also provided the students with some tips that will be helpful as they carry out their final project: the creation of a new programming format for the Catalan radio industry.
