Dr. Arís Presents Paper at 4th International Congress on Emotional Intelligence in New York
Dr. Nuria Arís, a lecturer in the Faculty of Education, presented the paper «Teachers, Stress and Emotional Relationships» at the 4th edition of the International Congress on Emotional Intelligence held at the Institute for Social and Emotional Intelligence(ISEI) in New York between Sunday and Tuesday, 8-10 September 2013.
Dr. Arís’s presentation dealt with the results of her research into the relationship between schoolteachers’ stress levels, their emotional intelligence and their teaching styles. The hypothesis of the research project is that differences between stress levels among teachers are dependent on their teaching styles. According to Dr. Arís, “communicative people tend to experience lower stress levels than those who are more reflective and analytical”. Arís also used the work of the lecturer M. J. Chalvin, who identifies four distinct learning styles, as a point of reference in her research. However, Arís warned, “The reader must consider this a simplification, given that all people have four styles that they use in many different ways, depending on the information being processed”.
In addition, Dr. Arís and Dr. Mireia Tintoré, also a lecturer in the Faculty of Education, presented the poster “Emotional Management: Communication and Leadership Style”, in which they sought to establish the theoretical relationship between emotional management, communication style and leadership style.
The congress was organized by the International Society for Emotional Intelligence and focused on innovation and applications of emotional intelligence in the sphere of education.
