Doctor Magdalena Bernaus from the Faculty of Humanities participated in the III International Late Gothic Conference and talked about the role of Basque stonemasons in Catalonia.

Specifically, the paper entitled “Basque stonemasons in Aragon around 1500” shows evidence of the presence of Basque stonemasons in Catalonia at the end of the Middle Ages. Dr Bernaus analysed the role carried out by some of them, since according to her research they may have been hired for their specialist knowledge.

The III International Late Gothic Conference was held on 20-22 November in the Faculty of Language and Literature at the University of Lisbon.  In this third edition, the conference focused on Architecture in the 15th and 16th centuries in Europe, specifically in Portugal.
