Dr Christian Villavicencio awarded one of the twelve Hestia Research Grants

Through these endowments, the Hestia Chair in Integrated Health and Social Care seeks to support teaching and research projects led by professionals, teams and institutions that care for vulnerable people with high health and social care needs.

The event, held in the Auditorium on the Sant Cugat Health Campus, was presided by Dr Xavier Corbella, director of the Hestia Chair, together with Eduardo Ferreiro and Eva Luque, president and director of Fundación Hestia, the institution with which UIC Barcelona cooperates on this initiative. Other participants included the twelve principal investigators from the projects awarded grants in this call, who briefly explained the objectives, methodology and expected results of their studies.

One of the projects recognised by the jury was “Planificación de Decisiones Anticipadas (PDA) y la comunicación en pacientes con enfermedad crónica compleja y con enfermedad crónica avanzada” [Advanced Care Planning (ACP) and communication in patients with complex chronic disease and advanced chronic disease], directed by Dr Christian Villavicencio, lecturer in Bioethics and Palliative Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

All attending researchers expressed their gratitude for these grants, which provide an incentive to work to improve care practices in the field of social healthcare and mental health.
