The tenth edition of the Ibero-American Conference on Sport Economics (CIED10) was held on the Ciutadella campus of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) from 12 to 14 June. Sponsored by the Spanish Sport Economics Society and organised by UPF, the University of Barcelona and UIC Barcelona, the event focused on “The future of professional sport: an economic vision”.

The conference featured renowned speakers, including UIC Barcelona Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences lecturer Pedro García del Barrio. It also featured prominent figures from the world of sport, such as María José Rienda, president of the Spanish National Sport Council, Gerard Figueras, Catalan Secretary General for Sport, and Jaume Roures, founding partner of Mediapro.

According to García del Barrio, who was also secretary of the conference organising committee, “Amongst CIED10’s other contributions, we are very satisfied because we have created an interdisciplinary environment, in which researchers from the field of sport management and economics have exchanged points of view and perspectives with industry professionals and other players in the entertainment industry.”

The programme included two round-table discussions on the future of professional sport. The first, on economic and financial sustainability, was entitled “Economic sustainability of professional sport: income and expenses”. The second focused on the changes now taking place in professional women’s sport.
