Dr Isabel Villanueva obtains a Fulbright Scholarship to do research in the US

The Vice-Dean for the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Dr Isabel Villanueva, has been awarded one of the most prestigious grants in the world, a Fulbright Scholarship which is awarded by the United States government in order to undertake research stays of between 6-12 months in a centre of excellence in that country.

Dr Villanueva will undertake a research visit in The Center of Performance Studies in cooperation with The Department of Theater, Film and Television in The University of California, Los Angeles, during the 2016-2017 academic year.

The research project, as described by Dr Villanueva, is “the result of an extensive research project in which we studied the global communication strategy that has evolved in the art of opera via the digitalisation of shows. The idea is to create a postdoctoral continuation project in The Center of Performance Studies, which will help theatres to adapt their communication better to their art in order to ensure that opera can be understood in a more enriching and contemporary way for young audiences, without losing its essence as an art form in the 21st century”.

The Fulbright Programme is a competitive programme that provides financial aid to study, to create an exchange between US high level academic programmes and those in countries which are members of the Programme so recipients can research, study or teach in those countries or in the United States.   It is considered one of the most prestigious programmes in the world and it exists in 144 countries.  More Fulbright students have won the Nobel Prize than students on any other academic programme.
