Dr José Nart, new full professor at UIC Barcelona’s Periodontology Department

At the event, Dr Nart, head of the Department of Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry and president of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA), received the highest level of academic recognition within the university field, joining fellow tenured faculty members at the UIC

On Friday 7 June, Dr José Nart took up the position of full professor at the Department of Periodontology at UIC Barcelona, in an event held at the auditorium on the Sant Cugat campus. The occasion was attended by numerous representatives from the dental sector, teachers, colleagues and students from the Faculty of Dentistry.

Dr Mariano Sanz, professor of Periodontology and chair of the ETEP research group at the Faculty of Dentistry at the Complutense University of Madrid, presented Dr Nart’s many merits, especially highlighting his academic, teaching, research and management career. More specifically, Sanz highlighted Dr Nart’s contribution towards putting periodontics and UIC Barcelona on the international map, emphasising his role in research related to clinical trials. To celebrate being sworn in, the new professor then gave a masterclass entitled “Periodontics and Implants in 2024. What have we contributed?”

After receiving a degree in Dentistry from UIC Barcelona, Dr Nart received a diploma in advanced education in periodontics from the prestigious Tufts University in Boston, and a specialist diploma in periodontics from the American Academy of Periodontology. Subsequently, Dr Nart received a PhD in Dentistry from UIC Barcelona, where he has held teaching positions for more than 17 years on the Degree in Dentistry, the Master’s Degree in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, and the Lifelong Learning Master’s Degree in Advanced Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

In the field of research, the priority of the new full professor has focused on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases; surgical techniques, morbidity and biomaterials, and the systemic conditions related to periodontal diseases. As a result of this line of research, Dr Nart has had 128 articles published in indexed journals

Currently, Dr José Nart is head of the Department of Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry, directs the Master’s Degree in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and the Lifelong Learning Master’s Degree in Advanced Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, and leads the Klockner Implant System Chair for the Prevention of Oral Peri-Implantitis. In addition, Dr Nart also leads the medical side of Nart Dental Clinic and is president of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA).
