Dr Josep Argemí donates his collection of historical medical artefacts to UIC Barcelona

The collection of medical diagnosis and treatment devices and pharmaceutical products from the 19th and 20th centuries are on display in the Auditorium on the Sant Cugat Campus

Starting on 2 July, the Sant Cugat Campus will play host to a collection of medical diagnosis and treatment devices and pharmaceutical products from the 19th and 20th centuries, donated by the University’s former rector, Dr Josep Argemí.

All of the items originate from the medical practice that Dr Josep Argemí Lacoma (1883-1944), Dr Argemí’s grandfather, ran in Sabadell between 1907 and 1944. After his death, his private collection was passed on to his grandson.

Present at the event held to inaugurate the exhibition were Dr Xavier Gil, the rector of UIC Barcelona; Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry; and Miguel Ángel Cazcarra, chairman of the Board of Trustees, as well as Dr Josep Argemí himself, who explained the origin of some of the exhibit’s most prominent artefacts.

Dr Josep Argemí Renom, who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps, holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Navarra and is a full professor of Paediatrics. Among other positions, Dr Argemí served as dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences from the time the University was founded, in 1997, to 2001, the year in which he was appointed rector of UIC Barcelona. He held his position for nine years.
