Dr Josep Maria Serra i Renom enters the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia
In his admission speech, the professor explained the role of the stromal vascular fraction in regenerative surgery
On 16 February Dr Josep Maria Serra i Renom, a pioneer of aesthetic surgery in Spain, a recognised dermatologist and full professor for the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine taught in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He recently became a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia during a ceremony held at the institution's headquarters.
During the investiture ceremony, the new academy member read his admission speech entitled “The use of the vascular stromal fraction obtained from adipose tissue in regenerative surgery.” The event was hosted by academics Dr Xavier Iglesias and Dr Josep Maria Caralps.
Josep Maria Serra i Renom holds a PhD in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reparatory Surgery, and is considered to be a prominent figure in this sector. With more than 37 years of experience, Dr Serra i Renom has combined his work as a physician with teaching at several universities, including UIC Barcelona. He also won the National Prize for Plastic Surgery in 1982, the Medal of Professional Merit from the City of Barcelona in 2017, and is an honorary member of the European Council of Doctorate Degree Holders.
