On 12 March, Dr Lluís Giner participated in the XVI Online Conference on Tobacco Smoking, organised by the Smoking Unit at the University Hospital of Santa Maria (Lleida). The dean of the Faculty of Dentistry gave the first presentation at the conference, titled “Tobacco and Dentistry”. He spoke about the most significant alterations that can be observed in the mouth due to smoking, as well as the most common pathologies.

During his talk, Dr Giner also discussed the training received by dentists and their role in helping their patients overcome this addiction. “As professionals, we can help support them during this process. Some pathologies, such as those affecting the periodontium, are very common and require recurrent visits to the dentist, which gives us a chance to boost patients’ motivation to quit their habit", said Giner.

The conference aimed to disseminate new knowledge on different aspects and realities of smoking. More than 500 participants attended the event from Spain, Mexico, Portugal and Andorra.
