Dr. Maria Mut Proposes New Model for European Union at Congress in Cyprus
On Saturday, 21 March 2015, Dr. María Mut, a lecturer in the UIC’s Faculty of Law, participated in the “Acceleration of History” conference organized by Dr. Alexios Alecou, a lecturer at the European University in Nicosia, Cyprus.
At the event, Mut evaluated the European Union’s current political situation in light of the Schuman Declaration of 9 May 1950. Mut proposed a new model that would decentralize the current government structure in order to create new spaces and tiers of government. She believed that this would make improved governance possible and help correct what she considers to be a democratic deficit currently plaguing the European Union. Mut also reflected on the United Kingdom’s future in the European Union.
María Mut Bosque holds a European doctorate in Legal, Social and Human Sciences and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Political Science. She completed a Master’s Degree in International Studies and a one-year postgraduate programme resulting in a postgraduate diploma in Community Law and in Public Law and Political Science.
