Dr Marta Crispí gives a lecture on the model of heritage and tourism value in the city of Girona

Lecturer Marta Crispi, who is a specialist in art history, participated in a training day about the heritage of Episcopal Girona

Marta Crispi, PhD in art history and lecturer of the Humanities bachelor’s degree at UIC Barcelona, gave a lecture in which she evaluated the impact of the new cultural brand: Episcopal Girona. The project began in 2016, led by the Girona Art Museum and the Treasury of Girona Cathedral, which allows visitors to visit three first class heritage centres related to the figure and activity of Episcopus (Girona Cathedral, Sant Feliu Basilica and the Museum of Art). All three institutions have introduced a new itinerary through the Old Quarter that highlights the buildings linked to the bishop and promotes tourism in the city of Girona at the same time.

The conference is the result of the study published by doctors Judith Urbano and Marta Crispí in the book Cultural Leadership in Transition Tourism: Developing Innovative and Sustainable Models.

The conference was held in the auditorium of the College of Architects of Catalonia and art historian Miquel Àngel Fumanal also participated, giving a lecture on the history of the district of the cathedral of Girona.

The conferences were given as part of “Episcopal Girona”, promoted by the council alongside the Girona Art Museum and the cathedral.

The event has been aimed at professionals who lead the guided tours in the city of Girona with the aim of highlighting the relevance of Girona episcopal heritage to tourists, and promoting a new cultural itinerary that highlights buildings of great architectural and artistic interest in the city’s Old Quarter.
