Dr Marta Mas and Inés Alegre form part of the jury for the SBC Transforms Awards
Marta Mas, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, and Inés Alegre, a lecturer within the same faculty, were two of the jury members charged with bestowing the SBC Transforms Awards. These prizes seek to recognise the efforts of social entrepreneurs to reduce the level of youth unemployment in Barcelona.
The SBC Transforms Awards ceremony, which took place in the Palau Macaya, is part of the Social Business City Barcelona initiative, overseen by Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. This year's winning projects were Mirmiki and Walk my Grandpas.
The gala was attended by all seven of the Catalan universities involved in setting up the future Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) Barcelona: the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, the Abat Oliba CEU University and the EADA Business School.
Of the seventeen already in existence, YSBC Barcelona will be first in the whole world to be sponsored and co-managed by a group of universities and business schools.
