Dr Pilar Fuster, from UIC Barcelona, presents a paper at the first RANCARE conference

Dr Pilar Fuster, a professor of nursing at UIC Barcelona, and Dr Cristóbal Rengel Díaz from the Virgen de la Victoria de Málaga University Hospital, presented a paper entitled "Proyecto para la implementación de la guía de seguridad del paciente en estudiantes de enfermería” at the first conference on “Rationing-omission of care: an international multidisciplinary problem” (RANCARE), which took place last month in Limassol, Cyprus.

The objective of the European RANCARE project, funded with 60 million euros by European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is to improve scientific and technical research at a European level in order to reduce the negative impact of rationing care, since this is harmful to patients, to nursing and also to organisations.  Eighty professionals from around 31 different countries in Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, representing 27 countries in the European Union and 7 international universities participated in the event.  Dr Fuster and Dr Rengel are the Spanish representatives.

Academics from the field of nursing and high level researchers participated in the conference in Limassol, which dealt with the challenges of “Rationing nursing care” through a scientific programme.

RANCARE actions will be undertaken through four working groups and two horizontal committees, which will supervise the activities planned for the next four years. It will also offer young researchers the opportunity to participate in Short Term Scientific Missions at Training Schools which will deal with methodological, organisational and ethical questions related to rationing nursing care.
