Dr. Serrano Coordinates Conference on Historical Importance of Gandesa

Dr. Serrano, a professor in the UIC Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, coordinated the conference «Gandesa: Its Historical Importance in Catalonia and the Crown of Aragon» on Saturday, 29 June 2013.

The conference, organized by Gandesa Town Council and the UIC, focused on the town of Gandesa and the county it belongs to at a particularly important point in its history: the reign of James II, one of the periods in the Late Middle Ages in which the city's influence was at its highest.

During the conference, different legal and governmental institutions were discussed based on the key facts of history. The personal relationship between James II and the county was also discussed, along with the human and social decline caused by the dissolution of the Knights Templar.

Dr. Serrano read the paper The Granting of Customs in the District of Miravet”.

The conference was held at the Terra Alta County Archive, which was inaugurated to hold the event. Other collaborators included the Catalan Ministry of Culture, Tarragona Provincial County, Terra Alta County Council, the Terra Alta County Studies Centre and the Catalan Society of Legal Studies (SCEJ).
